Are There any Road Tolls when Driving a Rental Car in Australia?

by Amy Nutt

If you are planning a trip to Australia, the best way to appreciate the vast and stunning scenery is with a car rental. A car is the most practical way of taking in all that the country has to offer. When renting a car in Australia, you not only have to follow all of the traffic laws, but you must be aware of the road tolls that you will most likely encounter.

There are a number of road tolls in Australia. One is required to pay any where from $1.50 to around $8.00 at a toll. When it comes to renting a car, one is responsible for road toll fees. All rental car companies provide written information to customers explaining toll road procedures and how they make payments. In most cases, car renters who fail to pay at the road tolls will have their credit card debited the amount that they owe. There may also be a fine and other fees such as administration charges.

There are a number of methods one can use to pay at road tolls. The following lists a payment options one can use at a road toll:

E-Tags: These tags are electronic ‘tags’ that record a car travelling through a road toll. The E-Tags are read by sensors at the toll points and the driver’s toll account is debited the toll fee. This payment method permits drivers to pass through the toll without stopping. Electronic tags can be used on all road tolls. When approaching a toll, look for the lanes marked with the red and yellow ‘E’ symbol.

When it comes to rental cars, a company will attach E-Tags to all of their cars. When you return the rental car, you are charged for the tolls that you have used. You can also purchase pre-paid tag accounts. When the pre-paid to balance drops to a specified amount, the toll account is replenished. The tag provider will use your credit card to add funds to the account. If you drive on a road toll without a sensor, a photo is taken of your vehicle’s plate number. You will normally have a day to pay before you are fined.

Cash: You can pay cash at the majority of toll roads. There are a few exceptions so make sure you know where they are before travelling. The rental car agency will give you more information. The exceptions to cash payments use electronic methods of payment. As well, some toll booths only accept the exact amount of the toll. If you have the cash, look for signs stating ‘auto’ or ‘exact toll.’ If you don’t have the exact toll amount, look for the booths marked ‘change.’ There is now a trend of converting toll roads to a fully electronic format so the cash payment tolls will slowly be disappearing.

Pass: A ‘Pass’ is a contractual agreement between a driver and a toll provider to travel on specific toll roads. This method is a good option for the electronic toll roads. Cameras at toll points photograph your licence plate number and your toll account is debited.

Driving in Australia is an experience one will never forget. The vast open spaces, astounding scenery, and charming towns, can only be enjoyed in person. A car is the best way to travel from one tourist attraction to another. Being prepared for Australian road tolls will make your driving experience much more enjoyable. If you rent a car while visiting Australia, make sure that you ask the rental company about securing a payment method for all road tolls.

Oil Testing for Free

by Michael Kafuman

The best way to establish realistic oil change intervals is via oil analysis. Of course, on small vehicles which require only 4 or 5 quarts of oil, the cost of the oil analysis is nearly as much as a complete oil change.

So, for some, the best thing is to utilize a free “do it at home” analysis of their oil. It won’t give you results as accurate and precise as results from a lab, but you will get a fairly good idea of just how effectively your engine oil is maintaining it’s integrity.

Below you will read about one of six very simple yet incredibly useful methods for checking oil quality without ever leaving your garage.

It would likely also be in your best interests to learn a bit more about oils and filters in general. Quite alot of information can be gleaned from the following sites.

- The Motor Oil Bible – Tons of motor oil information

- The Motor Oil Evaluator –

- A Motor Oil Forum for discussion of motor oils

Performing the Test

The use of this simple layman’s oil analysis test can shed light on a wide range of possible oil problems that might necessitate an oil change: excessive particulates, condensation build-up, glycol contamination, fuel dilution, failure of dispersant additives, formation of sludge and oxidation products.

While your oil is WARM (not HOT), yank the oil level dipstick and put one drop of oil on a heavy, white, NON-glossy card stock or business card. Place your white paper/card someplace where it will be suspended and horizontal and so that your oil spot touches nothing – on the top OR bottom of the card. For instance, if using something relatively stiff you could set it across the top of a mug.

You want to wait for the oil drop to be completely absorbed which might take awhile. Once all of the oil has dried you can begin evaluating the condition of your oil.

- A colorless spot or slight yellowish outer ring = “good” oil.

- A dense, dark deposit zone = Dispersant additive failure

- A black, pasty zone = Glycol (Anti-freeze) in your engine oil

- Center of circle dark with distinct outside ring = Severe oxidation

- Center of circle dark with outer rings = Fuel in oil,Fuel dilution

Top Guide Of One Way Car Rentals

by Anne Durrell

Car rental businesses offer one way car rentals that give you the option of driving to your destination and then simply turn the rental vehicle back over to the company you rented it from.

If you need to move the house, renting one way car rental can save you a great deal of time and money, or maybe you are going across the country of going to visit another state and need to hire a vehicle to reach your destination but then you do not need the car to go back.

Most one-way car rental companies will put some restrictions, which you have to stick to. However, one way car rentals are really a deal you make with the rental company.

You can pay one-way car rentals you make with either a big deposit or a major credit card. The good thing is that, any deposit you set down will be returned to you once you turn the car back over to their company.

Not all car rental companies offer one-way car rental, so perhaps you need to do a lot of footwork to get one who does in your local area.

Many countries around the world offer one-way car rentals. While in the Mexico, Canada and United State, they certainly are readily available.

It is not uncommon you are allowed to pick up your rental vehicle the same day that you book. You can easily book your car rental online, and 24 hours a day.

Beware of hidden expenses when you make one way car rentals. Remember that no matter where you drop the car off, that the company is going to have to return the car to the original place that you picked it up.

For this, of course, costs time as well as money and the car rental company is going to pass that cost onto you in some form or another.

Make sure carefully read the rental terms before purchasing any rental car. You are very lucky if you can find a company that offers free drop-off rates if you check around well.

If you find a deal that sounds to be too good to be true, beware. There are unfortunately, many scam car rental sites online, so check for a phone number and location and address of the company.

Renting a car is easy. Just remember to thoroughly check out the company before paying. Just take some time to shop around a bit before committing to a company to find the lowest rate possible.

The Benefits of Collision & Comp Auto Insurance Coverage

by Joseph Welusz

Types of Auto Insurance Coverage

The most commonly recognized coverages, in addition to the basic liability are collision and comprehensive coverages also known as other than collision coverage. This article will explain the differences in coverage and what is covered so when you get free insurance quotes you will be well informed.

Collision Coverage

Will pay for damages to your car from hitting another object, such as another car, tree, house or mailbox. This coverage is relatively expensive compared to the other coverages listed in your car insurance policy. Collision coverage is not required by law but may be by your financing or leasing company.

If you have an old car and it is not worth at least $2000, you might want to consider not buying collision coverage. You will likely pay more for the coverage than you would get if you filed a claim. This is because insurance companies are only required to pay for the lessor of either what the car is worth or the costs to fix it. They might deem you vehicle worth less than what it will cost to fix.

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage pays for damage to your auto from almost all other causes, including fire, severe weather, vandalism, floods, theft and hitting animals. Comprehensive coverage also will cover broken glass, such as windshield damage. Comprehensive coverage is less expensive than collision coverage and many consumers choose to carry it. However, remember it is your choice; you are not required by law to carry comprehensive coverage.

When considering collision and comprehensive coverage, you should consider your deductible. A deductible is an amount of money you agree to pay as part of a claim before the insurer is committed to pay the rest of the claim. For example, if you carried collision coverage with a $200 deductible and you had a $500 loss, you would have to pay $200 and the insurance company would have to pay the remaining $300.

Basically, deductibles reduce your premiums because you agree to deduct a set amount from the claim your insurer otherwise would have to pay. Insurance companies offer deductibles because they reduce the number of small claims, which are costly for them to handle.

If you purchase a new car with a loan, the financial institution that loaned you the money might require you to purchase comprehensive and collision coverages. This is because they see your car as collateral for the loan, and they want to make certain it is worth something if they need to repossess it.

If you decide or are required to buy comprehensive and collision coverage you can reduce your cost by agreeing to higher deductible but remember that will be the amount you need to pay before the insurance company pays there share. As the car gets older many people choose to only have comprehensive coverage to protect themselves against other than collision claims. This will help them secure cheap car insurance on an aging vehicle.

Car Insurance Tips for Teen Drivers

by Tom Martens

One of the biggest days in any teen’s life is the day they get their driver’s license. But with that tiny piece of plastic arrive huge responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is auto insurance. Every newly licensed driver must arrange for adequate auto coverage.

But car insurance for teen drivers can be very expensive. Teen drivers are considered high risk drivers due to their inexperience, which means they can expect to pay high rates for their insurance premiums. Don?t let that stop you from earning your driver?s license, though. With careful planning, teen drivers can find ways to save money on car insurance.

The first step a teen driver should take is to get several quotes from licensed insurance providers. Different providers define risk in different ways, which means some providers might charge higher insurance premiums for teen drivers than other insurance providers. There is also much competition in the insurance business, and if an insurance provider knows you are talking to a competitor, they might be willing to offer you a better rate on your insurance premiums. But you have to ask and be willing to negotiate. The internet makes doing research and shopping for insurance much easier than it was in the past.

Also, if you have not already done so, look into taking basic driver ed or defensive driving. Passing these courses shows insurance companies that you are serious about safe driving, and allows them to lower you risk level when assessing your driving record for computing your insurance premium. Talk to a licensed agent about what courses are available that qualify you for an insurance discount.

Check with your insurance provider to see if they offer discounts for good students or belonging to a club or organization. Also, see if they will extend to you a discount if your parents belong to an eligible club or organization. Ask the insurance provider what other discounts are available to you. And here is where the internet comes in handy again. Do research to see if there are any discounts that you qualify for and are not aware of.

If your parents have additional insurance policies, such as home or life, see if they will ask the insurance provider to bundle the policies. Many providers often give big discounts to customers who purchase more than one insurance policy from them. Check to see if the insurance provider offers discounts for multiple drivers from the same household. This is another way to obtain great savings on your car insurance premiums.

If you are a newly licensed teen driver or will earn your driver?s license soon, contact a qualified insurance provider. They can answer whatever questions you may have about car insurance, examine your specific situation closely and make insurance recommendations so that you are properly insured and protected behind the wheel. It will take some time, effort and research, but you could end up saving a lot of money on your insurance premiums, which makes the investment worth it.

An Overview- The Demerits of 2005 GMC Denali

by Rob Johnson

The name plate given to select luxury and pick-up vehicles of General Motors is Denali. It epitomizes a sense of comfort, style and class. Denali, Yukon XL Denali, Envoy Denali, Envoy XL Denali, Sierra Denali are the select models under the Denali line. The name Denali suggests perfection but there are several features in this line that are far from perfection as such they need to be worked upon to improve the efficiency of these vehicles.

The luggage space and storage space available is very less and as such it is very inconvenient to use for long journeys. The navigation system of the car also is very sensitive and causes a lot of trouble. The overall fit and finish of the car is not up to the mark and peels off early.

In electrical aspects, there are very few points provided for connection. The mileage and fuel economy of this line leaves much to be desired. The gas consumption is a lot increasing the expenses. It comes with the standard 17 inches wheel package and it costs a lot to upgrade to 20 inches package.

The quality of the leather seats and wood rim also has raised several doubts. The sun roof also has to be operated manually and not automatically.Even the sound system has several problems with the controls.

The leather seats provided are very uncomfortable and as such it can cause great inconvenience especially during long journeys. The size of the Denali models also make it difficult to park. The facility provided for cup holders is also not adequate.

The third row seats are really uncomfortable with no cargo space and the rear end is not that intact. Its high ground clearance makes visibility difficult. Above all, the cost of these vehicles is so much that only after a lot of consideration and thought, they should be purchased

There is water leakage from the headliner at times. It is not designed to operate under rough weather conditions with no provisions like snow chains being provided. There are several issues with the speedometer as it shows inaccurate readings many times. In the aspects of suspension and drive system, it has received a below average rating in many customer reports.

The GMC Denali line is renowned for its style and looks and advanced technology has been used to develop and install each and every feature incorporated in it and as such ,when such glitches in the vehicles become known and cause inconvenience to the customers it is time for the company to look into the aspects that have gone wrong and correct and amend them as soon as they can so as to keep up the name and status of the Denali line.

Tonneau covers come in various styles. There are the aluminum and “drop down” truck bed cover styles. Also there are the roll-up tonneau cover types, retractable tonneau cover, fiberglass tonneau cover and folding tonneau cover styles.

A tonneau cover makes for a great cover for the bed of a pickup truck. It is mostly used to keep your stuff out of the elements and it prevents thieves from taking luggage, tools or groceries or whatever is in the bed of your pickup.

As opposed to a hard tonneau cover, retractable ones are available to give you the ability to haul large items without taking out the cover. It does need some room at the front of the bed for the storage canister but it is a very good value anyway.

Fiberglass Tonneau Covers are heavy but are completely rainproof. In order to transport large objects, you would have to remove the cover and that would require some effort. You can expect the cover to weigh 150 pounds and they are usually painted to go with the color of the truck.

Folding Tonneau Covers are a good deal compared to expensive hard and retractable covers. They could leak a little, but they are durable and are more affordable that covers made of fiberglass.

Aluminum tonneau covers are engineered to give you the ability to transport large items without taking the cover out. These types of covers require some space for the container at the front.

New to the bed cover scene is the ”retractor type” or ”drop down” bed cover. It allows you to use the truck bed without having to remove the aluminum cover. The retractor cover can be locked at 12-inch intervals if you like.

Used Car Financing Tips

by Kermil J. Fogarth

Car financing is a big business to the car manufacturers as they must help the dealership move their inventory. The car loan business is as competitive as any other financing business and several options may be provided at the point of purchase to allow the customer the ability to drive away with their purchase. It is then left to the customer to choose from the offers presented.

As the cars are being offered from the showroom or the shop, the rates and the rules of the loan usually remain the same. The rate is usually very low, so as to attract and lure more and more customers towards their loan program. This is because there are companies waiting to have a go at the customers and if the loan rates are higher then obviously the customers would go for the another loan company with lower rates.

But this is not the case with the car loans that are given out for used cars. The rates that are charged by the loan giving companies usually differ from each other as it is the discretion of the loan companies.

Therefore, it is advised that before taking or choosing a loan the customer should properly research the rates that are prevailing in the market. He or she should not jump at once to grab a loan merely because the rate offered is low. There are bound to be companies which offer better rates. The customer should go through all the programs and then apply for a used car loan that suits him the best. And if no loan suits his interest then he can always go back to the first loan that was offered to him at a low rate of interest.

A customer can register online or can go and directly collect the forms. The person should however compare the loan rate that is being offered to him. The customer can search online for the prevailing market loan rates; or rather collect the rates directly from a local lender. This way he will have an idea of the lowest rate offered. Before taking up a loan however, the customer should also take into consideration, the number of months for repayment.

It is possible to find online finance companies who will provide loans for used cars at low rates of interest. Possibly even lower than the rates offered by local banks. They may not have as strict guidelines for used car loans as the banks do.

So the advice here is that the used car buyer must do thorough research regarding loan terms and rates available to get the best financing possible.

Spray Painting Your Car – Paint Primers and Paint System

by Will Yonder

Novices that’re entering into painting a car for the very first time, don’t realize that there’re various primers and paint systems available. There are choices that have to be made as to which ones to go with. It must also be realized that some of these systems could be chemically volatile, and must be utilised with extreme caution. That doesnt mean you should be dubious about utilising them, it signifies that you got to know what you’re doing and implement the right precautions.

There’re the air dry kind of cellulose systems for repair, then there’re 2 pack products. These are much more durable and professional but are the ones that demand caution.

For the primers theres the etching primer. This’s a primer base to which a form of acid is added. You could buy several one step primers that also come in aerosol form but they dont do quite the similar high quality job that the commercial acid based ones do. Be certain to follow the instructions exactly as the product says.

Other type of primer you might hear about or even require is the wash primers. These do not have any fillers and are applied in one wet coat over whatsoever of the areas showing the bare metal. The etch primer fillers are a little different because they’ve a couple of basic filling qualities. These’re applied in two to three wet coats, allowing ten to twenty mins between each application.

A heavier kind of primer fillers or surfacers are available that contain filling products. Nearly all the sprayable products are designed for filling tiny surfaces and scratches not dents, holes our deep scratches.

Air dry is more often your primary cellulose kind products. They dry fast but they dont have the identical ability to fill the area. You could also run the risk of it shrinking once it dries.

You would need to determine if you’re contented working with the light aerosol fillers or if you want to go with the more intense two pack primer fillers. Remember these’ve to be blended exactly according to directions, and utilised as instructed. There are health risks that you got to safeguard against too. In the long run they do give a much splendid finish, but you have to decide does the job youre doing need this. If not then stay with the aerosol products. On the other hand, if you are not familiar at all with primers, then maybe you could get some expert help or advise on the matter.

Be it which type you decide to go with , they all have the number of applications that will be needed. Then they would instruct you on what your future steps are after drying for instance how many coats are needed and how much sanding is required.

There are new products coming out on the market constantly. It is always a great idea to check with your supplier as to what they recommend. They are normally well versed in the products they carry and could give you several really good advice.
